I teach in an automatic. Without a clutch and gears to manage, you can put your attention on road position, observation and reading hazards, which gets most learners confident on the road sooner.
A valid UK provisional driving licence, and your glasses or contact lenses if you need them to read a number plate at 20 metres. That's it — I'll bring the car.
It's different for everyone. The DVSA suggests learners need on average around 45 hours of lessons plus some private practice, though automatic learners often need fewer. After your first lesson or two I'll give you an honest estimate based on where you're starting from.
Usually one or two hours. Two-hour lessons tend to make faster progress — there's time to get to quieter or busier roads and still get plenty of driving in. See Lessons & courses for the options.
I pick up and drop off at home, work or college — anywhere within the coverage area shown on the map above.
Usually the one your lessons are built around, so the routes are familiar on the day. I cover the local test centres listed above and will help you choose one and get a date booked.
Yes. You'll take the test in the car you've learned in, and I'll drive you to and from the test centre and be there before and after.
Both are booked through the official service on gov.uk — search "book your driving test". You need to pass the theory test before you can book the practical, and I can help you time it so you're not left waiting.
A short course you can take after passing, covering motorway, dual-carriageway, night and all-weather driving — the situations that don't always come up before the test. Some insurers offer a discount for it.
Most pupils pay per lesson or block-book a set of lessons in advance — I'll go through the options when you book. If you need to move a lesson, let me know as early as you can and I'll do my best to find another slot.
